KHILAFAH CONFERENCE OUTSTANDING SUCCESS
Sydney, Australia – Hizb ut-Tahrir Australia successfully held its first Khilafah Conference in Sydney today. Hundreds of supporters from all sections of the Muslim community packed into the White Castle Function Centre to hear a distinguished panel of local and international speakers.
Sheik Issam Amera from Palestine reminded the audience about the necessity of re-establishing the Islamic Caliphate (Khilafah) and the ramifications of its absence. Ashraf Doureihi from Sydney provided a detailed outline of the political work required to achieve the party's objective. Ismail Yusanto from Indonesia charted some of the potential challenges to face a newly established Khilafah, whilst Maryam Brack from Sydney articulated the case for Islam as the antidote to the ills of Capitalism. The conference was concluded with the proclamation of the `Conference Declaration' (attached).
Wassim Doureihi, Media Representative of Hizb ut-Tahrir Australia, says: "The Khilafah Conference was conducted under a campaign of intimidation and misinformation. The success of this Conference demonstrates clearly the Muslim community's desire to reject any attempt at silencing the legitimate voice of political Islam."
Commenting on the calls by NSW Premier Morris Iemma, NSW Deputy Premier John Watkins and Federal Opposition Immigration Spokesperson Tony Burke for Hizb ut-Tahrir to be banned, Wassim Doureihi commented:
"It seems state and federal politicians are only interested in playing politics with security. Such politicians will need to explain why it is unacceptable for Hizb ut-Tahrir to campaign for representative government in the Muslim world, and why it is deemed a crime to oppose tyranny and oppression in the Muslim world."
Hizb ut-Tahrir will be writing to the NSW Premier, the NSW Deputy Premier, and the Federal Opposition Spokesperson on Immigration to seek a clarification of their reported views.
